What Takumi means
Takumi is a Japanese term used to describe a master craftsperson or artisan
Someone who has achieved excellence in their work through years of discipline, experience and pride in quality. In Japan it can take up to 60,000 hours over a thirty- year period to earn the status of Takumi while in the west after 10,000 hours you are regarded as an expert. The Japanese culture hold the concept of “Takumi” in high regard. This concept is ingrained in Japanese culture and is highly valued for its role in preserving traditional arts and promoting the highest quality of craftsmanship. In modern times the concept of Takumi has evolved over time, shaping Japanese culture and influencing craftsmanship worldwide. Most professionals aiming for operational excellence find value in understanding Takumi, a concept rooted in the principles of Lean thinking.
Gerry Reynolds- Founder
Why we are called Takumi
Our founder, Gerry Reynolds, spent six years working in Japan, where principles such as lean thinking, discipline, and craftsmanship were everyday practice.
The name reflects the standards, mindset, and pride he brought back to Ireland when Takumi was founded in 1998.
The Takumi Way
The Takumi Way is our cultural framework. Inspired by the Japanese concept of Takumi – The master craftsman. It defines how we think, work, and continuously improve at Takumi Precision. We bring the principles of Takumi to life through three core pillars:

We do what we say we do
At Takumi, our environment reflects our values. We don’t just talk about craftsmanship, excellence, and customer focus – we demonstrate them every day in how we work, train, and maintain our space. Our workplace is a visible expression of our standards and our commitment to delivering on our promises.

Our high standards are maintained consistently throughout the building. We work together with clarity, respect, and shared responsibility. Everyone understand their role and takes pride in contributing to common goals.

We grow each other
We invest deeply in training and mentoring through guidance, repetition, feedback and trust. Our experienced team members don’t just deliver outcomes; they pass on ways of thinking and standards of quality, creating opportunities for everyone to thrive.
We support each other
We foster a culture of collaboration, respect, and empathy. It’s about having each others back especially under pressure. Offering to help without being asked, listening actively and valuing diverse perspectives.

We set the standard and are the benchmark
Takumi sets the benchmark through an uncompromising commitment to excellence. quality is not inspected in at the end – it is built into every stage of our processes. We maintain high standards through disciplined quality control, attention to detail, and pride in our skills our environment, our workspaces, and our behaviours all reflect the standards our customers expect and the standards we expect of ourselves. By doing this consistently, Takumi becomes the reference point for best practice in precision engineering.
