This is a full-time, in-person permanent role in Limerick, Co. Limerick.

Job Description

We are looking for a reliable, organised individual who will manage the tool room. The role involves preparing all necessary tooling and fixtures in advance to minimise production downtime associated with changeovers and setups. Managing the stocks of tools so that shortages are avoided. Order special or custom tooling in advance for arrival prior to it being required. Manage the tooling budget.

Responsibilities

  • Assessing the production plan and scheduling the build of non-standard tools to support the plan. Delivered those tools, measured and ready for use.
  • Managing the standard tools so that immediate replacements are always available.
  • Managing all standard workholding, keeping track and carrying out maintenance as required.
  • Minimise the volume of tools in circulation on the shop floor to the minimum require to run current jobs. Ensure all others are returned and stored in the tool room.
  • Monitoring & reporting on tooling spend v budget on a monthly basis.
  • Implementing improvement initiatives such as recycling management, regrinding workplace organisation etc.
  • Conduct & Support changeover time reduction initiatives; where are the issues, what takes too long, what are the problems encountered etc; what cells have the most frequent or most significant changeovers?
  • Manage the VMI tooling (Ceratizit & Hard Metals) to ensure that their stocked portfolio is current, redundant items are deleted and new requirements are added as necessary.
  • Link in with engineering to ensure the digital tool lists used in programming is managed and matches the physical stock, minimising the overall variety as much as possible.
  • Manage identification and storage of all fixtures.
  • Working with toolroom vendors to keep on top of what is available on the market. Carry out tooling trails/assessments. Know the USP of each supplier, where they are strong/weak.

Requirements

  • Have a broad knowledge of the functioning of a production cell and understand the requirements regarding tooling & workholding.
  • Be well organised and be able to meet targets on a continual basis.
  • Be familiar with the variety of tooling used, particularly milling and turning tooling.
  • Be driven to continually improve in your own workspace while also supporting others to do so.
